The Genoese Fort of Tabarka, following a closure lasting three decades, was reopened to the public on Independence Day 2016, through the auspices of the Association of History and Monuments of Tabarka (AHMT).
Tabarka, renowned for its natural resources and commercial prospects, attracted the interests of numerous settlers throughout its history. Initially fortified as a castle mound, the promontory saw subsequent establishment of a presidio by the Spaniards for coral fishing, effectively outmaneuvering Ottoman corsairs.
